Death of Former Italian President Francesco Cossiga
On behalf of the United States Government, I would like to express our condolences on the death of former Italian President Francesco Cossiga, a brave and committed statesman and a lifelong friend of the United States.
A staunch supporter of NATO, President Cossiga worked with successive U.S. Administrations to preserve and defend the cause of freedom in Europe.
We send our deepest sympathy to his family and to the people of Italy.
